March in East Texas

Wow, there sure is a lot or rain in East Texas this year.  In fact Terry found a toad hiding on one of the doors under our rig.  Even he had enough water and wanted a dry place to rest!  When the rain stops, the humidity is still here.  If it is this humid now, it must be really bad in the summer!

We have been able to venture out to the surrounding areas.
Did u know there is a Huntsville TX? It is home to BIG Sam Houston! See me at the base of the statue? It took them 2 years to build this statue!  We went to Huntsville to visit the Sam Houston Museum and the Texas Prison Museum.  http://samhoustonmemorialmuseum.com/

We also drove to Nacogdoches Texas to check out the Azalea flowers.  We forgot to call ahead to find out if they were in bloom yet.  They were not, but we found 3 museums of local history.  Very interesting!

The Durst-Taylor Historic House and Gardens - http://www.ci.nacogdoches.tx.us/index.aspx?NID=693

Thomas Mercantile is one of the local treasures we found.  http://www.yelp.com/biz/thomas-mercantile-livingston

We finally got to see some blue bonnets!  They are planted in some gardens around the campground. How fun to watch more bloom each day.  We are headed to the Hill Country in April to find the big fields of blue bonnets.  We missed them last year so want to see them this year.

Kathie took out her sewing machine for the first time in a year! Got caught up on all my mending. I love sewing!

The CARE Center is sponsoring their annual CARE Health Fair next week, March 22-28.  I have been using my administrative skills to help with preparations and will be helping during the week of the fair, too.  Here is the link for more info. http://www.escapeescare.org/healthfair.php

Also, here is a good article about the CARE Center that we have volunteered at.
