The drive from Tucson to Sacramento has been fun. The first night we stayed in Quartsite
AZ. The population is 3,677 except in
Jan & Feb when it is 1 million! There
are many gem & mineral shows during that time and free campsites on BLM
land!!! This is the smallest town we
have spent the night in, so far.
Next stop was Castaic CA, just north of LA. It was a challenge for Terry to drive the
motorhome through the Palm Springs area where there is a reason there are many,
many wind farms along the interstate!
And then driving on the LA freeways made for an exhausting day. We had dinner at a friend’s house, only a few
miles from the RV Park. Good food and company was a nice treat after a long day
on the road. This campground had many big trees. It was fun to watch some kids play on the
tree in front of our campsite.
Next stop was Coalinga CA along I-5. Drove through the “grapevine” of I-5 today.
Terry kept it in low gear on the way down so it was easy on the brakes. We
stayed in the truck lane where the posted speed limit was 35 mph. Then came through Kern County and the San Joaquin Valley of miles and miles of
farms and orchards west of Bakersfield.
Saw nets on some of the trees.
Found out it is to keep the bees off the trees that grow “CUTIES”
oranges. Had a few gusts of wind, but nothing like yesterday. Coalinga is a cute little town of about
17,000. In 1919 A&W Root Beer was
formulated in downtown Coalinga. The
campground is right next to an almond orchard.
We have never seen almonds growing before.
Next stop is Sacramento to spend time with Stephanie &
Daniel.
