Starting the job at Old Faithful Yellowstone General Store

We arrived at the employee campground on May 17.  Got settled in and ready to report for orientation and work on May 18.  We were hired to be Cashier in the Old Faithful General Store operated by Delaware North Corp.  They have the contract with the National Park Service to run the store.  We will be one of 85-90 employees working in the store by the time everyone arrives by mid-June.  When we are not at a cash register we are helping to make sure the store looks nice.  There are racks and racks of apparel along with a grocery section and other souvenirs.   There are 10 cash registers in the store.
Our home for the summer.  Yes, that is a pile of left over snow to the right, between the trees!

We signed up for the employee meal program and are very glad we did.  The Employee Dining Room is attached to the store so it is very convenient to go from a meal right to or back to work. The food is DELICIOUS and have been told that we have the best dining room in the park! This way we don’t have to use our days off to go grocery shopping.  We plan to see as much of the park as possible on our down time. Plus with us working 32 – 40 hours a week, we don’t have to do any meal preparation.
We found a good group of fellow employees here and think this will be a great summer.  There are about half young people and half older adults working here with us. Most of the employees stay in a dorm room attached or right next to the store.  There are a few of us that are parked in the campground less than a mile away.
We cannot see Old Faithful directly from the store.  Too many trees between us and the geyser. But we can see the Visitor Center building across the street where people can learn more and view the geyser through the big picture windows or go outside to be up close. We have seen it erupting many times on our way to or from the store to the campground.
